Like it's subject, this is a heavyweight book. And not just because it is 4 lbs. I was immediately caught up in the author's fresh style of writing. No formulas here. What John Cameron forces you to do is actually process what you are reading and holding your attention so that you are not just going over words while thinking about the laundry or something. It is an art when you can bring small details to life and not have something that reads like a textbook. I finished this sucker in two days flat. I would have read it in the shower if possible. I have been a Marciano fan since the first Ezzard Charles fight and always assumed that his early bouts were pretty much ham and eggers to inflate his record. Not only does this book set the real record straight, but you get the feeling you are there in 1950 jogging along the highway with Rocky and enjoying a conversation. This book is well researched and factual. No artistic license or fictitious dialogue that I can decern. In short, a winner.

Great detailed account of the early rise of the Brockton Blockbuster !
This is a great book very well researched and leaves the reader wanting the next volume NOW! Everyone can enjoy this book who has a slight interest in history in sport. The grammer and spelling in the book can get annoying but it is easy to look past as it is a riveting read, maybe a new editor or proof reader is required.
This book is very big ... I mean the format is big...It is printed in a double spaced larger print and thus produces a rather large and heavy book...not a commuter carry along you'll need a car or rolling cart to bring it with you..AS for the content it is ok..not a great but Marciano fans will get another story about the 'MAN'
Love it. We are prime members and I highly recommend signing up for this service, well worth the money if you order like we do.
This is, by far, the most definitive and well researched book I've ever read about Rocky or any other boxer.

At first, the detail seemed tedious to me, but I soon found the beautiful flow and rhythm of Cameron's writing, and I couldn't put the book down for long.

I am anxiously awaiting Vol 2 !!
When I heard another biography on Rocky Marciano was coming out, I thought I knew the story from the previous ones I read but as a huge fan of Rocky and boxing, I was looking forward to any new material I could get. Well I was more than happy and surprised at the amount of new and interesting information the author has presented to us. The book is very well researched, complete with extensive chapter notes. It is a no-nonsense approach to this great champions life. It brings him out as a human and sheds light on his struggle to rise through lifes obstacels and attain his highest goals. This approach I think, makes Rocky all the more impressive and someone we can relate to. The subject was not put forth as a mythical hero but a true human hero to many which is refreshing in our present world filled with many built up figures with no foundation. This is a work to be proud of and I eagerly wait for Volume 2.
1. Marciano unknown last name before its change was interesting. Rocky's tough life growing up in the northeastern United
States. Racists are spread all over. I'm not to please with his Professional Fight Manager Al Weill, a typical, "take advantage of a poor boy's backgroung," manipuilator in the fight game. Charley Goldman, A GREAT TRAINOR! Rocky brother, Sonny, loyalty! Very much interested for Volume II and how Rocky made good after his undefeated reign as a professional boxer, including his financial and emotional recovery from so many rounds in the square zone. The most sought question, why did he board THAT fateful plane? So Young.
